Chris Rock, on a recent episode of The Actors Studio, tells of an early time in his life when he was “called” to do stand-up comedy and try out his stuff at a local comedy club. He talks about standing in a long ticket line at Radio City Music Hall, and while reading the New York Times, a comedy club listing caught his attention. He then decided to leave the ticket line and walk 25 blocks (on a cold February day) to a one-in seven chance of going on stage that night, and winning the opportunity.
As they say, “chance” would have it that Chris went on stage that night, did pretty well, and then was asked to continue, and to work there every night. From that point on, things accelerated for Chris, and it brought him to levels of success he can now talk about on a television interview. All starting from a point where he was “called”.
A chance moment in time, a chance moment of connection, a chance moment of a calling to action. And then, there is an agreement to follow. Do we not all have these things in our lives? Are they loud? – do they knock us off our feet (sometimes literally…) or, are they a whisper? Can we hear them? Are we ready to hear them? Are we ready to follow? Is this what they call a guided life? What is this place?
Some of us consider ourselves to be subtle. Others not so much. Some of us can get quiet for a minute or two. Others can do it more often, where thoughts of reflection can emerge and ideas bubble out. Some of us take time intentionally to get quiet, to discover new places within while sitting quietly, and some of us focus on the peace as we go. Some discover through talking, others through writing. All of these times, clarity is beckoning.
Chris Rock’s story implies an accidental meeting with his fate, and yes, a willingness to respond ensued. Our question is: Can this phenomenon be re-created at will? If you believe in serendipity, where gifts and blessings exist, can we humbly summon these angels and achieve the movement we seek? They say opportunity knocks, but can we call / ask /pray for the knock to occur?
Perhaps the movement has already occurred in-between the said remarks. They say that our thoughts create our reality. Big concept indeed, but how does this machine really work? For me, I want to put myself in a place where the calls can be heard. There are many of them. My life is created moment by moment. The call can be a loud one, and it can also be as faint as following the mist on a winter morning.
I don’t care if it is loud or not; I just want to hear it, and respond.

April 8th, 2010 at 7:05 pm Thanks again for the positive remarks - the world we live in today is an interesting mix of awakening souls. Many times, as we strive to connect with others on these levels; let’s remember that we all have much to learn about vibration, and about its contrast to our circumstances. Health, Wealth, Career, business, and relationships are all improved when we step closer to the core of our being. See you there!
